Bentiu’s El-Merreikh FC defeated Salam FC of Wau 3-2 on Sunday but have missed out on any chance to take the South Sudan National League title.

El-Merreikh men crumbled the Wau champions at Bulk Playground in a match attended by thousands of fans.

The tournament witnessed 7 yellow card and a red card that reduced Salam FC of Wau to nine men early in the game.

The Bentiu team are now in the second position after Salam Bor with the same points.

However, they have negative two goals while Salam Bor have positive two goals.

Meanwhile, Salam Wau remain third with 3 points and zero goals but have one game in hand against Salam Bor on Tuesday.

This means Salam Wau can only be crowned champions if they beat Salam Bor by 3 goals to nil while a draw will be enough for Bor men to be the South Sudan league champions.

Should Wau beat Bor by only one goal, the Bor will still be the champions.

The winner of this tournament will walk away with a trophy and 25,000 USD prize.

In addition, the winner will be the representative of South Sudan in the African clubs champion league this season.
