The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil, has called for peace and dialogue to resolve differences across the state instead of resorting to violence and retaliation.

Speaking during a Diocesan Peace Day event in Juba, Governor Adil said peace should begin in families and extend to workplaces, institutions and communities.

He urged citizens to reject hatred, rumours, hate speech and intolerance.

Adil said differences in political views, culture and background should not turn people against each other.

“Being the first school of peace, families play an important role in building peaceful communities. When parents, children and relatives learn to listen to one another, respect and forgive one another, they create a foundation for peace. We must promote peaceful communication within our families and teach our children that disagreements are normal, but hatred, violence, insults and revenge are never acceptable solutions,” he said.

Governor Adil also called on church and traditional leaders, women and youth to take an active role in peacebuilding and conflict prevention.

He said the Central Equatoria State government remains committed to supporting church initiatives that promote peace, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.
