EES refutes Magwi attack claims

The Eastern Equatoria state government has dismissed media reports that the SPLM in Opposition attacked and took control of Magwi town on Wednesday.

The reports indicate that the government lost control of the town in a clash with the SPLM-IO forces.

EES state minister of Information Mark Arkio told Eye Radio that Magwi town is in peace.

“We’re even surprised to hear from the Sudan Tribune that Magwi has fallen into the hands of the rebels. This is something surprising because we know that there are no rebels anywhere in Magwi town or county and we know that EE has no rebel bases,” Mr Arkio said.

“People are going on normally with their businesses.”

The Commissioner of Magwi County, Ben Kingston, has described the reports as mere fabrication.

He told Eye Radio that there was only a gunshot on Tuesday night from some people who were traveling to Juba.

Mr Kingston said this shooting was not an attack on the county headquarters.
