The Eastern Equatoria State assembly is vetting draft budgets for its newly created states: Imatong and Namurnyang.

The President split the state into two in a presidential order issued early last month, in which he also split the current ten states into 28.

According to the budget proposals, Imatong state will have more than 142 million pounds while Namurnyang gets over 113 million.

It is unclear how the states will raise funds for the budgets, but the money usually comes from transfers from the national government and locally generated revenues.

The chairperson of the specialized committee of economy in the state assembly, Charles Odwar Okech presented the budgets in their second readings yesterday in Torit.

The MPs agreed with the recommendations and passed the budgets into their third readings.
