A police officer accused of killing 3 people over the weekend in Torit, Eastern Equatoria state, has been arrested.

Stray bullets from the officer who said he was aiming at someone else killed the three in the residential area.

The 3 killed include a civilian and two members of the organized forces.

The accused said he was aiming to shoot at a man he suspected of having an affair with his wife.

“When I came home, I found another man with my wife in the house,” the offender whose name has been withheld described the incident to Eye Radio.

“As I entered the house, he started running away; the woman also ran after him.

“I had a gun with me, so, I started chasing after the man as the woman ran into a different direction. I shot 3 bullets at them.

“I was later told the bullet I shot and killed some people. I never knew that they were at that end -where I shot the bullets.”

Torit County Commissioner Henry Danima said the accused officer will appear before the court in Torit.

“It is obvious, he has committed a murder; he is no longer a policeman. He is now in custody, we put him in the prison to wait for trial,” said Mr Danima.

Commissioner Danima said if the accused is found guilty, he will likely be given a death sentence.
