An official of the SPLM says Pagan Amum is still a member of the SPLM party despite his dismissal as Secretary General.

Earlier this week, President Salva Kiir, who is also the chairperson of the SPLM, issued a decree expelling three officials and relieving Pagan Amum from the position of Secretary General.

Pagan was suspended last year pending the results of an investigation led by Vice President James Wani Igga.

In December, the committee recommended that Pagan be relieved from his position as Secretary General and from other positions that he held in the S-P-L-M structures.

The SPLM Secretary of Information and Culture, Bol Makueng, told Eye Radio that the committee did not recommend the expulsion of Pagan from the party.

“It is in relation to a committee that was formed because Pagan has not denounced the SPLM as a party,” said Mr Bol.

“It is about the resources of the party – that is one of the issues – and until he is proven wrong, later on – maybe a court of law will try to find out how he used the money of the party – Pagan cannot be dismissed as a member of the SPLM but he can be removed from his position because a lot of investigations have not been concluded.”

On Monday, the SPLM expelled Dr. Riek Machar, Taban Deng Gai and Alfred Lado Gore from the SPLM political bureau, National Liberation Council and membership of the party.

Members of the SPLM parliamentary bloc have also expelled former Vice President Dr. Riek Machar and Alfred Lado Gore from the National Parliament.
