Church launches peace campaign for Lakes

The Episcopal Church of the Sudan and the Committee for Peace and Reconciliation officially launched a peace campaign for Lakes State this morning.

The event took place at Emmanuel Jieng Parish Church at Hai Cinema in Juba.

Speaking to Eye Radio, the Archbishop of the Episcopal Church, Daniel Deng Bul, said they have mobilized 300 peace campaigners for Lakes State.

The state has faced a number of insecurity issues ranging from revenge attack, banditry, cattle raiding and killings.

Last month, more than 50 people were killed in a revenge attack in Rumbek East.

Archbishop Deng says they will go and preach healing and reconciliation to the people of the State.

“They have to go and preach the word of God to soften the hearts of the people,” he stated.

“As a church, we want to go and talk to the hearts of the people. Because if the hearts of the people are not together, then the hearts can be used by the devils and that is why we have combined while we preach the Gospel, the same time we are making peace and reconciliations amongst the people.”

Archbishop Bul says people in Lakes State are killing themselves because the word of God has not touched their hearts.

“As a church, we are doing [this] because once the person has accepted Jesus Christ as a personal savior, it will be easier to be reconciled to another person. So we could see there is a gap.”
