The Chief Executive Officer of Eye Media and Eye Radio, Stephen Omiri Obuor, has mourned the death of veteran South Sudanese music icon Mama Vivian James Nyachan Chwai, who died on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, in Juba.

Obuor extended condolences to the family, friends, relatives, and in-laws, describing the late musician as a national cultural figure whose music promoted peace, love, and unity across the country.

“It is with deep sadness that I send this condolence on the passing of the legendary music icon Mama Vivian James Nyachan Chwai,” he said.

“On behalf of the Eye Radio family and on my own behalf, I extend heartfelt sympathies to the immediate family, friends, relatives, and in-laws for the untimely and sudden death of South Sudan’s cherished music icon, who over the years has enriched our airwaves with peace, love, and cultural songs.”

He said the late Vivian Nyachan will be remembered not only as a musician but also as a patriot and cultural ambassador whose songs carried messages of national identity and reconciliation.

“The late Vivian Nyachan was not just a music legend; she was a true patriot— a nationalist first, a freedom fighter through her songs, a peace advocate, and a cultural ambassador,” he said.

Obuor added that her passing leaves a gap in South Sudan’s music industry and within the Collo community at home and abroad.

He said Eye Radio, formerly Sudan Radio Services, has featured her music since 2004, reflecting her long contribution to cultural broadcasting in the country.

He called for strength and comfort for the bereaved family, saying her legacy will live on through her music and cultural impact.
