He told Eye Radio that the abductors, whom he alleged were armed youth from the Abyei Administrative area, demanded a 1. 5-million-pound ransom.

But Abyei authorities intervened and handed over the women to Twic County authorities on Tuesday.

“Three women who were abducted on date 14 in Twic County by suspected armed youth from Abyei safely were handed back to the county authority yesterday on date 16,” Mayom Confirmed to Eye Radio this morning.

“A ransom was asked the parents to pay 1.5 million South Sudan Pounds but with intervention from the Abyei Administrative area, the abductors were convinced to return the abductees to Warrap state Twic County.

“We are happy with this gesture and we are very optimistic as Warrap State government for the intervention made so far by Abyei Administrative Area.”

When contacted, the Abyei Administrative Area Information Minister confirmed the handing over of the freed women but denied the allegations that the area’s armed youth abducted them.

“The people who abducted the women are not from the Abyei Administrative area, and we have put a lot of effort with the army until we got these women back.”

“These women were not brought directly to Abyei, they were taken to an area bordering Warrap and Abyei, we handed the women back to maintain peace because conflict has no result,” he added.
