The family of the former governor of Western Equatoria State, Joseph Bangasi Bakosoro, says he has been releasedafter five days in detention.
His sister, Dudu Bakosoro, told Eye Radio that he is looking okay and happy.
“I’ve seen him physically. Actually, he is looking somehow fair. He is okay. He was taken when he was badly off. He was very very sick. But to our surprise, when he was getting out of his car, he got out with a smile,” Ms Bakosoro said.
It’s unclear why Mr Bakosoro was detained.
However, he was relieved last Sunday along with Simon Kun of Upper Nile, Clement Wani Konga of Central Equatoria, and Nyandeng Malek of Warrap.
Mr Bakosoro was freed a day after the parliamentary caucus of Equatoria MPs raised a concern about his health.
Eye Radio was unable to establish the alleged health status of the former governor.
However, he has welcomed his release from detention. He told Eye Radio that he was treated well since he was detained five days ago.
Mr Bakosoro also welcomes the president’s decision to relieve him from office and says he will cooperate with the new governor.
He also appeals to the President to give him a position to continue serving the people. Mr Bakosoro apologized for any mistakes he may have committed during his time in office.
