A delegation from the African Union Peace and Security Council (AU PSC) arrived in Juba on Thursday for a transitional assessment of the status of the 2018 Revitalised Peace Agreement.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the delegation is led by Ambassador Hirut Zemene Kassa, Ethiopia’s Permanent Representative to the African Union and UNECA.

Upon arrival at Juba International Airport, the delegation was received by Ambassador Kureng Akuei Pac, Director General for Multilateral Relations.

In a document obtained by Eye Radio, the Ministry noted that the three-day field mission—running from April 23 to April 25, 2026—will include high-level engagements with President Salva Kiir and other senior government officials.

The Council also intends to meet with the Vice Presidency and various institutions established under the R-ARCSS. Additional consultations are planned with international partners, including the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), IGAD, and the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC).

The statement noted that the visit focuses on the implementation of outstanding tasks within the 2018 peace deal. According to the African Union Mission in South Sudan (AUMISS), the Council aims to gather information to guide future AU support for the transition toward general elections.

It stated that the delegation will explore mechanisms to facilitate the completion of requirements stipulated in the peace agreement.

AUMISS has invited stakeholders to discuss the progress of the peace process with the Council. The information gathered during these sessions will serve as the basis for AU PSC strategies to support the government and the people of South Sudan in completing the transitional period.
