A high-level African Union (AU) C-5 delegation has arrived in Juba on a peace mission aimed at engaging South Sudan’s leaders on the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement.

The AU C-5, which stands for the African Union High-Level Ad Hoc Committee for South Sudan, is a five-nation committee established by the AU Peace and Security Council to support the peace process in South Sudan.

The committee is currently chaired by South Africa, with representation from Algeria, Chad, Nigeria, and Rwanda. It oversees the Revitalised Agreement (R-ARCSS) to ensure lasting stability.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the C-5 mission will be in the country from 6th to 7th July 2026.

Ambassador Joseph Dut, Director General of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, received the delegation led by Sofiane Chaib, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Algeria, at Juba International Airport.

The statement said the C-5 High Level Committee is expected to engage with government officials, peace partners, and other stakeholders to review the status of implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement.

The delegation will also assess preparations for the forthcoming general elections scheduled for 22nd December 2026 by the Electoral Commission.

The rest of the C-5 High Level Committee is expected to arrive in Juba tomorrow.
