Two students travelling to Juba for studies are among at least three people killed in separate ambushes along the Anyidi area between Bor and the Greater Pibor Administrative Area last week, according to authorities.

Speaking to Eye Radio, Greater Pibor Administrative Area Information Minister Jacob Werchum Juol said the students were attacked while travelling along the route towards Bor.

He said two of them were killed, while three others sustained injuries.

“We have also school boys that were travelling in the same route. And then when they were about to reach to Bor, their vehicle was also ambushed. Two of them were killed, and then three others were injured,” he said.

Minister Werchum said another person was killed on Monday when unknown gunmen ambushed a convoy transporting construction materials for an airfield project in Pibor.

He said the victim was a 32-year-old driver working for a company contracted by a UN agency, and was shot dead while travelling from Bor to Pibor.

“One of the vehicles was ambushed, and the driver was killed instantly. The rest of the vehicles were travelling, but the driver was killed,” he added.

The minister condemned the attacks and called for increased security patrols along the Bor-Pibor road to protect civilians, students, and humanitarian workers using the route.

Authorities say poor network coverage in the area delayed the reporting of the attacks.
