The police in Juba shot and injured two Boda-Boda riders on Friday while protesting the death of their colleague, Mauna Quarter Council Chairperson has said.

The deceased boda-boda man was accidentally shot in the stomach on Thursday as another man tried to grab a firearm from a police officer.

This reportedly followed a fist fight involving two other individuals in the area

On Friday morning dozens of commercial motorcyclists stormed the Boda-Boda Association officer and burnt down the office.

In response, the police fired at the protestors in a bid to disperse the riot.

Subsequently, two people identified as boda-boda riders sustained gunshot wounds, according to Godfrey Batali Alfred, the Chairperson of Mauna Quarter Council.

“It reached the shooting situation of those Boda-Boda raiders, the protection unit had shot at them. Two boys were injured as a result of this shooting, the other shot in his shoulder and the other in his leg,” Batali narrated what happened.

“The youth have burnt down the boda-boda association office. The director of Mauna police station is around and he tried to send two vehicles, but the force is not enough because those youth are more the police personnel,

“I have communicated with the mayor of Juba town but he told me that he will come. Those who have been shot are now being transferred to Juba Teaching Hospital.”
