16-year-old boy ‘shoots dead’ baby sister in Yambio

A 16-year-old boy is under detention at Yambio police custody in Western Equatoria State for allegedly shooting dead his 18-month-old baby sister on September 16, says a local official.

The incident occurred in Gangura Payam of Yambio County.

Yambio Commissioner Mbiko Barakat said the minor named Anibiko Marko was playing with his father’s gun when it went off and killed his sibling.

The teenager’s father has also been detained by the police pending further investigation.

“The young boy of almost 16 years old called Anibiko Marko happened to shoot his sister who is aged only one year and eight months,” Commissioner Barakat said.

According to him, the toddler names Imirigo Samson tried to play with the loaded gun, but his brother tried to take it away before it fired causing the fatal injury.

“He (suspect) took the gun in the head shoot his sister to death. Investigation is still on-going and the boy who killed his sister is also arrested he is in detention.”
