The Interim Chairperson of the peace monitoring body R-JMEC says the remaining 12 months are enough for the government to prepare for elections if there is political will.

Charles Tai Gituai says if there is a political spirit and commitment, swearing in of members of the key bodies for elections, registrations and provision of finances for the democratic exercise can be done.

General Gituai believes the government has time before the election could take place.

“I believe 12 months is good enough to do a lot of work if there is commitment and political spirit to do these things and seriously looking at where we want to move this country I believe there is time,” Gen. Gituai old Eye Radio Sundown Show on Thursday.

“I believe it is possible with commitment if tomorrow for example you can say everyone is sworn and these guys are being put to work and there is money for elections then you begin to see the processes of registration and so on, it can be possible,” he said.

The R-JMEC head calls on the citizens and members of political parties to question the parties’ leaders on where the elections are headed.

“I think elections are a matter of parties to the agreement and these distinguished people of South Sudan are members of the parties let me ask their party leaders where are you taking us it is not R-JMEC,” said Gen. Gituai.

“They should ask the party leaders what kind of elections they are going to have, maybe they will have the answers because they move around and speak to the people and open offices all over and let the people ask them where are you taking us,” he said.
