At least eleven people were killed and nine others wounded in a cattle raiding in Gogrial East County of Warrap state by  gunmen allegedly from a neighboring state over the weekend, according to the authorities.

Warrap Information Minister said the attackers suspected to have come from Mayom County of Unity raided a cattle camp in Wagej village of Gogrial East County on Saturday.

The incident, Mr.William Wol said, resulted in the loss of eleven lives, and wounding of nine others.

He alleged that the raiders – some of whom were dressed in army uniform made away with 532 heads of cattle

” Yesterday (Saturday), on 16^th of this month, suspected armed youth from Mayom attacked place called Wagej area of Gogrial East County in Wararp State killing eleven civilians and wounding nine civilians of Gogrial East, and raided 532 heads of cattle,

“We are suspecting this cattle raiders are people in uniform, they mixed themselves with civilians, so this is the incident that had happened,”  he said.

According to Wol, the state authorities contacted their counterparts in Unity State over the deadly raid, but there has not been any positive response.

” We had contacted our counterparts in the government of Unity, and they said that they would try to monitor the situation and intervene quickly.

However, he said  “up to this (Sunday) morning, there was no any response or any good news from the side of unity state.

Wol appealed to Unity State government to ensure the culprits are held accountable and the raided cattle return to their rightful owners.

When contacted, Unity State Government Spokesperson David Gai said he was yet to get back after a prayer service.
