Lakes State police reports the death of a woman after her husband stormed a house and allegedly found her with another man in a suspected adultery case in Yirol West County.

The husband, who is an executive chief in the area, and the suspected lover have been detained as part of an investigation to determine the prime suspect, Acting Police Commissioner Maj. Gen. Enock Majok Machar said.

“The chief followed his wife and found them in the house. He intruded into the room and found them. “What happened there is not known, and it is the investigation that will reveal it,” Gen. Majok said.

“So the man who had the strength sneaked out and ran away, but the lady who was weak remained. It is an adultery case involving the wife of Mayen.”

While he could not identify any prime suspect among the two men, the police official encouraged the state communities to refrain from taking laws into their own hands when they find themselves in such a situation.

Instead, he called on citizens to always report to the police to get justice.

“It is for the police to go and see what happened. In that case, the police only found that death occurred here in this house. The other guy ran away and two (husband and wife) remained inside and one died.”

According to the police official, the victim’s neck was found broken, and the perpetrator must have sat on her neck. Majok said one of the suspects has been arrested and is being detained at Baburzet prison in Yirol West.

“An investigation was taken, and it was found that it was adultery that had been committed. The husband of this lady was supposed to call people and report this so that the law can deal with a person while this lady is alive, and we cannot do it that way, asking why we should kill ourselves.”

Lakes State Coordinator for Community Empowerment and Progress Organization (CEPO), Daniel Laat Kon, expressed concern over the woman’s murder, adding that people should not take the law into their own hands.

“If you have found your wife to have committed adultery, you can not go and kill her by yourself, and this is something we need to condemn and that’s why we have a law,” Laat said.

“You can go to court and to the police to handle it in the customary way. Even if it is something to be taken to the high court, then it can be handled by the high court but killing your wife.”

“You need to think about your children, you need to think about people who are having this lady, because it was not in the marriage agreement that if she commits a crime, then you are going to kill her.”
