Women’s groups are demanding the immediate trial of a man, alleged to have raped a 10 year old girl, who later died in Juba Teaching Hospital.

“We will not relax, sit down and watch. Neither will  we be to part to this act of hooliganism,” said Harriet Baka, the director of Women for Peace and Faith.

Around one hundred women, dressed in black clothing with red ribbons around their heads, wanted to march to the parliament, and to the office of President Salva Kiir.

But tight security for the state visit of the Kenyan president meant they were denied permission to make the march.

“Our demand as women and mothers; immediate trial of the suspect-the government should ensure effective and speedy hearing of rape cases based on evidence and should publicize this particular case, ” Mrs. Baka added.

The state gender minister, Mary Apai, has promised the women: she is taking the matter very seriously.
