South Sudanese and Ugandan leaders have urged the Kuku and Aringa communities to abide by the resolutions reached during the recently concluded 6th Uganda–South Sudan Joint Border Meeting.

The appeal came during a meeting with representatives of the Kuku community of Kajo-Keji County and the Aringa community of Uganda’s Yumbe District held in Arua on Saturday.

The leaders said the engagement was intended to communicate the outcomes of the joint border meeting and encourage the two communities to support the implementation of the agreed resolutions.

They reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the resolutions in letter and spirit and called on residents on both sides of the border to respect the decisions reached during the meeting.

The leaders also urged members of the two communities to refrain from making inflammatory statements that could undermine peace and instead support efforts to promote security, trade and cross-border cooperation.

The appeal follows resolutions adopted at the 6th Uganda–South Sudan Joint Border Meeting, which include strengthening joint security cooperation, resuming the border demarcation process, improving cross-border trade and immigration coordination, reactivating border management committees and promoting peaceful coexistence, as earlier reported by Eye Radio.

Uganda’s Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Huda Abason Oleru, attended the community engagement alongside officials from South Sudan and Ugandan.
