Authorities in Warrap State have detained 30 suspects accused of involvement in years of inter-clan violence linked to a longstanding dispute over the community name “Lou Ariik Mawien” and “Lou Mawien Ariik” in Tonj North County.
The arrests follow recent security operations conducted in Alabek Payam, where clashes between members of the Pan Arek and Pan Kuei communities have repeatedly resulted in violence and insecurity.
Speaking to WPM on Monday Warrap State Government spokesperson and Information Minister William Wol Mayom Bol confirmed that the suspects were transferred to Kuajok Main Prison, also known as Manyang Kuel Prison, on the orders of the state government.
According to the minister, the operation was carried out by Division 11 security forces, which apprehended individuals allegedly linked to various crimes committed during the communal conflict.
William Wol said the state’s Mobile Court was established to ensure swift justice and accountability in areas affected by intercommunal violence.
“No one is above the law. The Mobile Court was established to ensure swift justice and accountability, especially in areas affected by intercommunal conflict. The court will process these cases fairly and without fear or favor,” he said.
The dispute within the Lou community has persisted for years and has been addressed by successive state administrations, including previous governors, but tensions have continued to resurface.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Director of Kuajok State Prison, Lieutenant Colonel Ayok Ayok Deng, confirmed that the 30 suspects are currently in detention awaiting legal proceedings.
“We have received 30 individuals accused of various crimes linked to the Lou Community violence in Alabek Payam. Each case will be handled in accordance with the law, and all suspects will be tried based on the offenses they allegedly committed,” Lt. Col. Ayok said.
Authorities say investigations and court proceedings will continue as part of efforts to restore peace and uphold the rule of law in the affected communities.
