The Governor of Western Equatoria State has ordered the deployment of additional police officers to markets in Yambio, Masia and Pozuo following traders’ concerns over security.

Governor Badagbu Daniel Rimbasa issued the directive after inspecting the markets on Tuesday.

He was accompanied by the State Minister of Commerce and Trade, the Commissioner of Yambio County, the Mayor of Yambio, the Commissioner of the Revenue Authority and other government officials.

The visit was aimed at assessing the situation in the markets, strengthening cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce and hearing traders’ concerns.

Traders raised concerns over security, access to markets, business organization and other challenges, particularly those affecting women traders.

Speaking after the visit, Governor Rimbasa said security in the markets is a priority to prevent theft and other crimes targeting shops and businesses.

He said additional police officers have already been deployed to the markets to protect traders and their property.

The governor said the state government will continue working with the Chamber of Commerce, traders and other stakeholders to address concerns over market organization, access and security.
