A four-day-old infant who survived a gunshot wound to the head during a cattle-related attack that killed both his parents and a sister in Tonj East County over the weekend has been referred to Juba for specialized medical treatment, according to the Warrap State government.

Speaking to Eye Radio this morning, Warrap State Information Minister Wol Mayom said the infant and his caretaker were airlifted to Juba under arrangements facilitated by the state government.

According to the minister, the child arrived in Wau on Monday evening before being flown to Juba on Tuesday for further medical care.

“The four-day-old wounded child in Tonj East County has been referred to Juba for further medical care. Governor Ambassador Bol Wek Agoth has provided air transport for the child and the caretaker. We wish him a quick recovery. Warrap remains committed to supporting the recovery of the wounded infant,” Mayom said.

On Monday, Warrap State authorities reported that unidentified armed assailants attacked Thiok-Kuil cattle camp in Tonj East County on the night of June 20, killing three members of the same family and critically injuring the newborn child.

Mayom said the infant was rushed to Tonj Civil Hospital in critical condition, where surgeons carried out an emergency operation to stabilize him.

According to the minister, the baby sustained a gunshot wound to the head and underwent emergency stabilization and debridement by a medical team led by a consultant surgeon.

He added that the infant was in stable condition following the life-saving intervention and was awake and feeding before being transferred for advanced treatment.
