The Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, Dr Addis Ababa Othow, has discussed strengthening monetary policy and digital payments with the British Ambassador to South Sudan, David Ashley.

According to a statement issued by the Central Bank, Ambassador Ashley paid a courtesy visit to Dr Othow to discuss monetary policy, digital payments and cooperation in the banking sector.

The statement said Dr Othow briefed the ambassador on his priorities, including strengthening monetary policy, managing the currency and advancing the National Payment System.

He also said the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank are working together to implement the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS).

The governor said the two institutions are also engaging telecommunication companies and mobile money operators to expand digital payment services.

“I believe with the plan we have now, it will help us to realize our digital payment systems and move faster toward a digital economy,” Governor Othow said.

The two officials also discussed the implementation of recommendations by the Ministerial High-Level Committee on Economic Reform to strengthen the banking sector and restore public confidence in South Sudan’s financial system.
