The Minister of Finance in Warrap State has survived a road accident that left his driver dead at Kubur Sach, in Western Bahr el Ghazal State on Saturday, December 24, an Official has said.

Cueibet Agei Dut is currently admitted at Wau Civil Hospital along with three others who are nursing injuries from the crash.

The state minister of information, William Wol Mayom said the finance official was traveling by car, from Kuajok to his hometown in Tonj South County for the Christmas festival.

He was in the company of five people including his wife and his driver.

“On date 24^th yesterday, the minister of finance, of Warrap State, Cueibet Agei Dut decided to travel to Tonj South Couty his home town with an intention of celebrating Christmas and the New Year, 2023,” Wol told Eye Radio on Sunday.

“On his way, he passed by Wau, and when he reached Kubur Sach about 14km from Wau Southwards to Tonj, the car overturned.”

The accident occurred at the Sach bridge – 14 kilometers from Wau town.

The Toyota land-cruiser carrying them overturned, reportedly due to high speed, before reaching Tonj South.

Mayom reported that the minister and his family were rushed to Wau Civil hospital for treatment, but the driver later passed on.

“The driver was in comma and passed on in Wau Civil Hospital, where they were rushed to. Both the family, wife, the bodyguard, and Hon sustain some injuries and they are now taking some medication in Wau Civil hospital.”

Both Minister Agei and his bodyguard sustained chest injuries, while a woman has suffered a fractured arm.

But the information minister said the patients are in stable condition.

Accidents remain at high risk in South Sudan, especially during the Christmas season.
