Eight Commissioners from Western Equatoria, Central Equatoria and Lakes States have held a conference in Mundri to come up with strategies of bringing peace and reconciliation to communities in the states.It was organized by the Organization for Non-Violence and Development.

The facilitator Lloyd Wilson Gama says their main aim is to bring together pastoralists and farmers, especially where there is conflict.

Recommendations:

  • Commissioners to be organized to discuss peace.
  • Commissioners are to regulate the natural movement of cattle across borders.
  • State government of Western Equatoria state in consultation with the minister of local government and law enforcement should deploy the security forces along the borders in the payams and boma which border each other, so as to promote peace and regulate natural movement of cattle.
  • Plans to include women in peace building in the states and to offer training to women leadersFacilitate greater communication through meetings, emails and phone.
  • Other participants of the conferences were the youth and chiefs for the three states.

The three-day conference was the foundation for other conferences which would include the discussion of the inter-communal clashes in Lakes state.
