The United Kingdom says it is ‘deeply concerned’ by the increased fighting in South Sudan.
This comes a day after the United States government condemned the clashes.
In a statement, UK Minister for Africa James Duddridge called on the leaders of the warring parties to ‘end all hostilities’.
“The ongoing military offensive in Unity State and reports of fighting in Upper Nile State are breaches of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement that both parties have committed to and contravene UN Security Council resolution 2206,” read the statement
The renewed fighting in Unity State has displaced over 300,000 civilians, according to the United Nations.
Most of them are women and children. They are in dire need of food and shelter.
“Those responsible must be held to account.”
