The family of Hon. Deng Alor Kuol has expressed profound gratitude to President Salva Kiir Mayardit, the government of South Sudan and well-wishers following his successful brain surgery at Nairobi Hospital in Kenya.

In a statement on behalf of the family, Professor Luka Biong Deng said the family was “overwhelmingly delighted” to announce that the operation had been successfully completed.

“The operation of our beloved brother Deng Alor has ended successfully at the Nairobi Hospital in Kenya,” Professor Luka Biong said.

He added that the doctors were optimistic about Deng Alor’s immediate recovery, saying: “The doctor is even saying that our brother is likely to speak within an hour.”

The family expressed particular appreciation to President Salva Kiir for the support he extended to Deng Alor during his medical evacuation and treatment.

Professor Luka Biong said the family was grateful for the President’s “camaraderie” towards Deng Alor, highlighting his presence at the airport during the medical evacuation and his directives to government institutions to provide the necessary support for the treatment.

The family described the President’s gesture as exceptional, saying:

“It has never happened before, even to his immediate family members, for our President Salva Kiir to see off a patient during the medical evacuation except with his comrade and brother Deng Alor.”

Professor Luka Biong further thanked the President, saying: “BIG THANK YOU, PRESIDENT SALVA, and we will not forget the brotherly and comradeship that you have exhibited during the sickness of your brother and comrade Deng Alor.”

The family also extended its appreciation to the government of South Sudan, the community of Abyei and Deng Alor’s friends in South Sudan, Sudan and beyond.

“We are indeed very grateful for your good wishes and support,” the family said. Deng Alor is now receiving post-surgery medical care in Nairobi as he begins his recovery.

The family has asked the public to continue keeping him in their thoughts and prayers.
