Tonj South witnesses goods scarcity

Author : | Published: Thursday, June 19, 2014

There are shortages of food in the markets in his county, according to the Commissioner of Tonj South, Warrap State.

William Wol says the roads that connect Tonj-South with the neighboring states and Juba have been damaged by the rains.

He says the shortages of goods in the markets due to bad roads have contributed to the increase in prices of food commodities.

“During the rainy season when the roads is very bad, we cannot receive commodities from Juba or from Rumbek or from Wau because the roads between these towns are bad,” said Mr Wol.

“All the ditches that have been caused by heavy trucks in the road have blocked the passage and the entering of commodities to Tonj South.”

Mr. Wol said the shortages of commodities in the markets have put more pressure on the residents of Tonj-South.

He urged the national ministry of transport to help repair the roads that link Tonj-South with the rest of the states to help ease transportation of goods to the area.
