The police in Tonj South County, Warrap State have arrested a man believed to be the prime suspect in the murder of two young siblings on November 7.

Last Monday, the little sisters; 3-year-old Adual Chilong and 5-year-year-old Awut Chilong were found dead in the remote village of Warapet.

The toddlers had gone missing a day earlier – before their bodies were found dumped in a nearby bush the following morning.

The police authority said the kids were slaughtered.

Detective Lieutenant David Bol said they have identified a certain Mawan as the prime suspect in the double homicide.

“We have so far arrested 12 people who were said to be Mawan (the prime suspect) but none of them has been identified Mawan. So today, we arrested another man who is said to be Mawan in an area called Nyiel far away from Tony South,” said Bol.

Speaking to Eye Radio on Monday, Lieutenant Bol said the male suspect identified by only one name has been detained.

He was arrested from Nyiel, an area located outside Tony South County.

The police officer says the suspect is the 12 man to be arrested so far after fitting the description of fugitive Mawan.

The officer says parents of the slain children have been summoned to come and identify whether the new suspect is the actual Mawan.

“He was brought here this morning by the national security and police, and I have sent for the parents of the slain children and another woman who knows Mawan to come and identify whether this suspect is the Mawan we are looking for.”

He said, adding that “if it turns out that he is not Mawan, we will continue our search until we track him down.”
