Three people were reported dead, and 10 others sustained injuries in different accidents at a bridge along the Juba-Yei Road, in the last three days.

According to a survivor, the first incident occurred on Thursday, August 17, when a Toyota Primo car carrying mourners to Yei overturned three times at the Bungu Bridge killing two women.

“She was trying to reach first to receive the body of her stepmother in Yei when she travels and reached to Bungu the car overturned three times. One woman died immediately, and another woman died on Friday,” survivor Agnes Kiden narrated in an interview with Eye Radio.

Kiden said the victims – a woman identified only as Sunday and an elderly woman, were then brought back to a mortuary in Juba.

However, on Saturday, when the body of one of the deceased was being transported to Yei for burial, a car overturned again in the same area killing another woman.

“This morning (Saturday), we take her to Yei but when we reached to the same area at Bong bridge, the car overturned at the bridge and poured people down. After that, people from the other cars came and pulled out the car. Ten people injured, and one died.”

Ms. Kidensaid the road crashes were caused by slippery roads and the poor condition of the bridge.

She appeals to the authorities to renovate the deadly bridge which she says is very small and dangerous to cross in situations of heavy rain.

“It was at the bridge where they overturned. That bridge is a very small bridge. We pray to God, that let this bridge to be renovated or reconstructed, it is really very small that the car cannot pass on it easily that why the cars are overturning.”
