South Sudan women leaders have commemorated the International Women’s Day by visiting women and children affected by the conflict in IDPs camps and Juba Teaching Hospital.

The director for Gender Affairs at the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare says the women leaders were able to provide food and non-food items to the women at the camps in Lologo and Gumbo.

Emilia Kong’a said they also provided psychosocial help and support for vulnerable women and children.

Madam Kong’a said the women appealed for peace in the country.

“The people in the IDP camps were so happy and they expressed their gratitude by seeing our minister going to see them at the camp,” Madam Kong’a told Eye Radio.

“They were also crying for peace.”

Earlier, the Ministry of Gender allocated 50,000 South Sudanese pounds to assist women in IDP camps.

This year’s theme for the International Women’s Day is, ‘Women Call for Peace and Security to Enhance Development.’
