The SPLM has denied claims by the SPLM-DC that it is seeking to de-register other political parties during the political parties registration exercise.

On Wednesday, the SPLM-DC criticized a provision in the Political Parties Act which requires every party to produce members from each state to the registration center during party registration.

The SPLM-DC acting Secretary General, Deng Bior Deng said the rules for party registration only favor the SPLM which has a lot of members near centers for registration.

Mr. Bior accused the act of trying to deregister parties who could not afford to transport their members to registration centers.

However, the SPLM Secretary for Communication, Bol Makueng said the Political Party’s Act “does not require people to be present during registration, but parties need to show their presence at the State levels.”

“Having members of political parties from all the ten States will discourage ethnic alliances, and can promote unity of purpose in the country, ” argued Mr. Makueng.
