South Sudan is set to join the African Regional Labour Administration Center (ARLAC) in Zimbabwe and has approved an annual contribution of $25,000, according to the Minister of Information.
Michael Makuei Lueth announced on Friday, December 20, following a Council of Ministers meeting in Juba, that South Sudan will join the African Regional Labour Administration Centre (ARLAC) based in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Established in 1974 by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), ARLAC is tasked with strengthening labour administration systems across Africa through training, research, consultancy, advisory services, and publications.
The proposal, presented by the Minister of Labor, seeks to integrate South Sudan into this key regional organization focused on enhancing labour administration.
Makuei underscored the significance of the decision, highlighting the centre’s vital role in providing training and resources to ministries of labour and labour administrations across the continent.
“This centre is crucial because it offers training and other resources to ministries of labour and administrations throughout Africa. Once you join this organization, you will gain many benefits,” Makuei stated.
He also mentioned that South Sudan’s annual contribution to ARLAC will be $25,000, which will initially support the construction of a composite building and services for labour administration and its partners.
“The annual contribution to this organization is $25,000 and it will start with the composite building and services to the labour administration and partners,” he said.
