Haji had arrived in Nairobi from Mogadishu on Wednesday evening aboard a Saacid Airlines flight, presenting a Somali diplomatic passport along with a valid visa.

However, immigration officials reportedly stopped him after raising concerns that he might also be in possession of a Kenyan passport believed to have been obtained unlawfully.

The Somali official acknowledged holding the Kenyan document but declined to hand it over, arguing that any dispute over its validity should be addressed through legal channels.

The disagreement led to his temporary hold at the airport’s VIP lounge, where senior immigration officials reviewed the matter. Authorities later arranged for his return to Mogadishu, placing him on a Daallo Airlines flight.

A report referenced by Kenyan media states that Haji departed Kenya on June 25, 2026, without further incident.

By the time of publication, neither the Kenyan government nor Somali authorities had released formal statements on the issue. However, an official from Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reportedly confirmed that the deportation had taken place.

Officials familiar with the situation stated that Kenyan authorities are increasingly monitoring suspected cases of foreign nationals acquiring Kenyan passports through irregular means. Investigations into the matter are still ongoing.

The incident has drawn attention to immigration enforcement procedures and documentation checks at one of East Africa’s main international travel hubs.
