A number of South Sudanese nationals were deported from Egypt, Türkiye, and Maldives in the past week, says the spokesperson of South Sudan National Police Service.
Police Spokesperson Col. John Kassara Koang did not indicate the number of deportees that arrived in the country while providing a briefing on the general security situation in the country.
He however said Egypt had deported the largest number of South Sudanese national having conducted three deportation trips.
“A number of South Sudanese in the course of that past week were deported from 3 countries including Turkey, Egypt and Maldives with Egypt leading with 3 consecutive deportation trips,” Koang said.
In other security incidents, he confirmed that three people including two Ugandan nationals died in fire outbreaks at Konyo-Konyo Market, Highland at Gumbo Shirikat and 2brothers Disco club at Malakia.
The police official reported armed robberies – including shootings at Jebel Lemon and Mauna and the robbing of two motorcyles from 17th-18th December 2024 – adding that there were no severe human casualties.
Col. Kassara also reported the escalating cholera outbreak as a public threat indicating the severity of the situation in Unity, Upper Nile and Jonglei State.
