South Sudan has reiterated its commitment to building a modern and interoperable digital ecosystem aimed at strengthening regional integration, improving public services, and expanding economic opportunities for young people.
The country’s representative made the remarks during the Digital Public Infrastructure Forum held in Tallinn, Estonia, where policymakers and experts from East Africa and Europe gathered to explore ways of advancing scalable digital cooperation.
Eng. Tejwok Simon Ajak, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Communication Authority, participated in a roundtable discussion on building scalable digital partnerships between East Africa and Europe. The session was moderated by the Estonian Ambassador to Kenya and South Africa, H.E. Daniel Schaer.

The roundtable focused on key thematic areas including digital trade and logistics systems, recognition of professional qualifications and labour mobility, digital health data systems, regional surveillance, and secure cross border data exchange.
Speaking at the forum, the South Sudan representative outlined the country’s vision for developing resilient Digital Public Infrastructure centered on secure data exchange, digital identity systems, data centre development, cybersecurity, and integrated government services.

He emphasized the importance of local ownership of digital systems and cautioned against fragmented pilot projects that cannot be integrated at regional level.

“South Sudan does not want isolated systems that later become difficult to integrate,” he said, stressing the need for scalable and interoperable solutions.

The forum also provided participants with an opportunity to exchange experiences and learn from Estonia’s widely recognized digital transformation journey, which is often cited as a global benchmark for e governance.

Discussions highlighted the importance of regional interoperability in building trusted digital systems that can facilitate labour mobility, enhance regional trade, support skills recognition, and expand economic opportunities across East Africa.

Organizers said the engagement is part of broader efforts to strengthen digital cooperation between Africa and Europe and promote inclusive digital development across partner countries.
