Ruweng sends 10 trucks to Sudan to evacuate returnees

The administrative government in Ruweng said on Tuesday it has dispatched ten trucks to evacuate South Sudanese citizens from Sudan to Renk County in Upper Nile State.

Ruweng Minister of Information, Youth and Sports Akuot Sarah said three of the trucks are picking up those fleeing Sudan from Kalakla, Omdurman and Mayo in the capital Khartoum.

She added that the first trip is expected to head to Renk on Tuesday morning.

“The team have dispatched about ten trailers, and of these trailers, three have already arrived in Sudan and we have established centres where people are being picked. We have in Omdurman, Kalakla and Mayo,” she told Eye Radio.

Sarah said the administrative government is also transporting Ruweng residents from Renk to Pariang.

“These people are expected to have started moving from 4 AM today and will be heading to Renk we are in preparation to evacuate our citizens from Renk to Pariang and this will start probably on Wednesday.”

The official further said the evacuation efforts will target the most vulnerable people including women, children, the elderly and the sick.

“We cannot transport them all at the same time but we have the sick people, the children and the elderly these are the people we are focusing on to evacuate on Wednesday”.

According to the government and humanitarian reports, nearly 50,000 civilians mostly South Sudanese nationals have fled from Sudan to the country.
