Return home, join hands with the citizens, Kiir tells SPLM-11

President Salva Kiir has urged the former political detainees to return home.

The President met with the former detainees twice in Addis Ababa, whilst attending the summit of the IGAD heads of States.

He also met with his former deputy, Dr. Riek Machar. They agreed to form a transitional government of national unity within sixty days.

The Minister in the office of the President, Awan Guol Riak, said the President has personally invited the former detainees to return to Juba.

“They’ve been asked to return home and join hands with the citizens in the country for us to work together because the country belongs to all of us,” said Mr Guol.

“And if we sit at war as I mentioned earlier, no winner. It’s the South Sudanese who are losing lives daily. And I think that is paramount to all of us more than politics.”

The 11 senior SPLM members were accused of an attempted coup to overthrow the government in December.

They were detained for nearly four months and were released in April. They are now living in Kenya.
