Religious leaders are urging the people of South Sudan to reconcile and live in peace.

This morning, Church leaders came together in a forum to discuss how they can be agents of change to help bring an end to the crisis.

The Archbishop of the Episcopal Church of the Sudan and South Sudan, Dr. Daniel Deng Bul, told the gathering they had come together to look at the root causes of the conflict and recommend solutions.

“Our coming together today is for us to look carefully at what is the problem in our country, what is going to be our message to our people who are struggling for power, what our messages to the government, rebels and others, are going to be.”

The deputy chairperson of the Peace and Reconciliation Commission, Peter Gwang Akiech, said it is high time religious leaders played a pivotal role in resolving the conflict.

“If we don’t work together, we are going to destroy this young nation, we are going to destroy it before it could see light. So let us try to join hand and work together,” he said.

The clergymen decried the suffering that thousands of civilians have endured following the eruption of the conflict in mid-December last year.
