The Primate of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan, Archbishop Justin Badi Arama, has urged youth in Western Equatoria State to reject tribalism and resist political or social manipulation, emphasizing their central role in shaping the future of the country.

Speaking during the celebration of Ibba Day in Ibba County on Wednesday, Archbishop Badi said the future of South Sudan rests firmly in the hands of young people and called on them to take responsibility for nation-building.

He warned that tribal divisions continue to undermine unity and peace in Western Equatoria and across the country.  Ibba Day is marked as a celebration of peace, unity, reconciliation, and development.

Addressing the gathering, Archbishop Badi appealed directly to the youth, cautioning them against being exploited for short-term personal gain.

Youth, the future of this country is in your hands. Do not allow yourselves to waste your future. We want you to grow and take responsibility for this country. Do not allow yourselves to be manipulated or bought for fifty or one hundred. Your value is far greater—do not reduce your worth to such a price.”

“I urge the youth of Western Equatoria to shun tribalism, which is dividing people and disturbing peace in the state,” he added.

Western Equatoria State experienced intense insecurity last year, which resulted in conflict and the displacement of civilians.
