The Deputy Chief Mediator of the Kenya-led South Sudan peace process has announced that parties will begin negotiations on relationship between Tumaini and 2018 revitalized peace agreement, on Thursday.
Amb. Mohamed Ali Guyo said this stage will commence immediately after parties finalize and set up a technical committee on the root causes of the conflict in South Sudan early that day.
He added that the mediation had an extensive discussion on Wednesday with both the government and the opposition delegations on how to proceed with the remaining agenda items.
He said the discussion is aimed to establish the relationship between the two agreements so that parties can move forward to other critical issues including power sharing.
Guyo said the mediation believes that the political leaders currently negotiating the peace process are capable to lead, own, and to deliver an agreement to the South Sudanese people.
“Tumaini Initiative had an extensive discussion with the parties, the government and the opposition with regards to how to move forward on the remaining agenda items,” he said in a media briefing.
Amb. Guyo said the consultations centered on how the talks can progress by focusing on the program of work which the mediation developed on Tuesday and shared with the parties.
Tomorrow (Thursday), we will move on to agenda number three on the relationship between R-ARCSS and Tumaini, here, the parties will negotiate extensively on all outstanding issues with regards to R-ARCSS and Tumaini.
According to Amb. Guyo, parties will proceed on Friday to discuss the agenda on responsibility sharing, which will include all the structures of the government.
This will be followed by discussion on the agenda on names of the negotiating parties, which was postponed last week.
