South Sudanese musician Calisto Salastino, widely known as One Pound, has voiced his support for elections in South Sudan, highlighting their potential to reduce government costs and foster democracy.
Known for his powerful lyrics and advocacy for the youth, One Pound believes that elections can significantly impact the country’s future.
In a recent interview on Eye Radio’s SoundTruck Show, One Pound commented on the South Sudan Presidency’s decision to postpone elections and extend the transitional period by two years, now slated for December 2026.
His remarks highlight the implications of this decision for the country’s future.
“I’m not a politician, but I recognize the issues we face, such as the lack of polling stations and the absence of salaries for the past ten months. I hope this extension will lead to necessary reforms, allowing us to prepare for fair elections,” One Pound stated.
One Pound also emphasized the need for peace and stability in South Sudan, calling on citizens to act as agents of change.
“Peace starts with me and you. It’s about how we treat those around us,” he noted. “If we cultivate peace in our communities, blessings will surely follow.”
Renowned as the “King of Arabi Juba Flow,” One Pound’s music often reflects the rich culture and experiences of South Sudan.
His popular tracks, including “Kalas” featuring Trisha Cee, “Ana Kaab,” and “Moyo Ena,” have resonated deeply with fans and showcase his unique contribution to the South Sudanese hip-hop scene.
As an artist and advocate, One Pound continues to inspire the youth of South Sudan to speak out and strive for a better future.
His call for unity and democracy serves as a reminder of the power of music and community engagement in driving change.
