Authorities in Morobo County say many schools are still lacking desks, tables and chairs following destruction and looting during the 2016 civil war.
Morobo County Commissioner Charles Data Bullen says the shortage of learning materials has left many learners without proper furniture in classrooms.
Following an assessment visit to Isebi Primary School in Lujule Payam, Commissioner Data said the lack of furniture, along with other challenges including shortage of teachers, poor staff welfare and limited financial resources, is affecting daily school operations.
He said community members have recently contributed locally available timber and other natural materials to make desks and chairs.
However, he noted that transport costs have increased significantly, making it difficult to deliver the materials and equip many schools.
The commissioner encouraged teachers to remain committed and continue providing quality education despite the challenges.
He also urged parents to provide their children with basic school requirements, including uniforms, saying education remains a priority for his administration.
Commissioner Data pledged to mobilize more support to improve learning conditions in Morobo County and asked the school administration to prepare for the planned visit of the Governor of Central Equatoria State.
