The new Mayor of Juba City, Christopher Sarafino Wani, has promised to restore public confidence in the city council and improve its image.
Mayor Sarafino said his leadership will promote inclusivity and ensure that residents feel they are part of the city administration.
He said many citizens have lost trust in the council due to allegations of mismanagement and misconduct.
To address this, he revealed plans to come up with a strategic plan within two weeks, which will include a 100-day action plan to guide the council’s activities.
Mayor Sarafino also pointed out the lack of a dedicated budget as one of the major challenges facing the council, especially in areas such as tax collection.
He called for a realistic and forecast-based budget that aligns with expected revenues.
The mayor pledged to introduce reforms aimed at making the council more responsive and accountable.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Central Equatoria State, Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, welcomed the mayor’s appointment and urged the new leadership to work as a united team.
Governor Mujung said the performance of the council reflects directly on his leadership as governor.
He also reminded the new mayor that keeping the city clean is the council’s responsibility, and encouraged him to raise Juba to the standards of Kigali, a city known for its cleanliness and order.
