Mundari cultural festival wraps up in Terekeka with call for peace and unity

The three-day Mundari Cultural Festival concluded on Sunday in Terekeka County, Central Equatoria State, bringing together communities from across the country under the theme “Preserving Mundari Culture for Peace, Unity, and Future Generations.

The festival attracted members of the Mundari community alongside invited cultural groups, traditional leaders, artists, youth and women representatives, as well as senior government officials, in a colorful celebration of South Sudan’s cultural diversity.

Organizers said the event aimed to celebrate and preserve cultural heritage while promoting peace, unity and coexistence among communities.

Throughout the three days, the festival featured vibrant traditional dances and performances from various groups, including Ngok Lual, Pojulu, Bari, Tijor, Malual Both Anyar, Luo, Nyori, Terekeka, Muni, Rijong, Mangala, Tombek, Ayaya, Shilluk and Baka communities.

Distinct Mundari cultural expressions such as Mokori, Tali, Reggo, Gemeiza and other traditional dances were also showcased, drawing large crowds and enthusiastic participation.

The program included storytelling sessions on Mundari history and values, poetry recitals, music performances, traditional wrestling, exhibitions of cultural artifacts and local foods, as well as continuous performances by local artists.

National and state leaders who attended the festival included the Minister of Culture, Museums and National Heritage, the Minister of Wildlife and Tourism, the Minister of Investment, the Governor and Deputy Governor of Central Equatoria State, members of national and state parliaments, and the Terekeka County Commissioner.

Vice President and Chairperson of the Youth Cluster Rebecca Nyandeng attended the event, alongside Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony.

President Salva Kiir was represented by Special Presidential Envoy on Special Programs, Adut Salva Kiir, who also took part in the celebrations.
