A vocational school has been closed in Maridi County in Western Equatoria State over clashes between students along communal lines.

Adventist Vocational Academy’s Head teacher Jondo Kalume says two students fought on Tuesday over use of a flashlight.

They resumed the fighting yesterday and their brothers took sides.  Members of the community later got involved, resulting into a shootout.

Mr Kalume told Eye Radio that no one was injured in the shooting.

“We have decided to stop the school a bit for at least maybe one week. We’ll call them [students] back as things normalize,” he said.

More than a week ago, eight people were killed in a similar incident in Maridi town.
