Law Society elects new Chairperson

South Sudan Law Society has elected its new leadership.

John Clement Cush is now the newly- appointed chairman of the Law Society, and Wani Matthias is the new Secretary-General.

The two are replacing William Ajal Deng and Dong Samuel respectively.

“I want to see into it that we promote the culture of respect for human rights,” the newly appointed chairman, John Clement Kuc, told Eye Radio. “I want to see that every southern Sudanese to see himself or herself equal to one another.”

For his part, the outgoing Secretary-General, Dong Samuel who served the Law Society for more than nice years, had this to say.

“I think bringing in new bloods will bring new ideas and will change the prospects of how governance with institutions can be run.”

The South Sudan Law Society was established during the civil war and moved to Juba after the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005.

It is one of the civil groups involved in human rights affairs in the country.
