Lakes state caretaker governor says he is not answerable to the Council of States.

Earlier this week, the Council of States requested Justice Minister John Luk to be summoned about the Lakes State care taker governor, Matur Chut, who has spent more than sixty days in office.

The Council said that this is violation of the Transitional Constitution.

Governor Matur Chut told Eye Radio that he is ready to contest an election any time:

“I don’t understand the meaning of 60 days. The same decree that brought me is the same decree that brought many governors before me.

“Many governors were employed the same way I was employed. No one talked about them.

“When I was appointed and given the task to come to Lakes state, I was not told about the 60-day timeline.

“I was not told I was going to spend 60 days here, but I came here with a mandate to solve the problem of insecurity.

“So, the leadership at the top is the one to answer. And I look at my mission as accomplished, and I am ready to contest in an election – if I am told to contest against whoever wants to contest in the election.”

Justice Minister John Luk Jok has said that the election commission is not in a position to conduct elections, for a number of reasons including lack of funds.
