Kiir warns against foreign meddling in Sudan crisis

President Salva Kiir on Monday cautioned foreign actors against interfering in the internal affairs of the Sudan and called for internal efforts to resolve the weeks of deadly fighting in Khartoum and other cities.

Kiir made the remarks after meeting Sudan’s special envoy, Dafallah al Haj who briefed him on the ongoing engagements to forge a truce in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

According to the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Sudanese envoy is in Juba to deliberate on President Kiir’s efforts to end the fighting in Sudan.

Deng Dau Deng said Kiir reiterated his commitment to mediate between the warring parties.

“His Excellency the President has cautioned those who want to interfere on the internal affairs of the Sudan, that it is only internal solution that can resolve the internal problem in the Sudan,” Dau said to reporters after the meeting.

“His Excellency on his side thanked President Burhan for having responded to his request of sending people to Juba, but also on sending face-to-face pre-negotiation on what is happening now in Jedah and the respect of the cessation of hostility that the President had asked on the 4th of May to 11th of May.”

“We must recall that the Sudanese army have a legitimacy in that country and President Burhan is the President of the Sudan and South Sudan acknowledge and know that particular role.”

On his part, Special Envoy al Haj said the Sudanese government has accepted ceasefire to open humanitarian corridors and allow aid delivered to the affected population.

“I informed His Excellency the President that we all call for an end to the war because the security of our people is our first priority, We also want the humanitarian aid to reach those who are affected by this war,” al Haj said.

“I also explained to the President that we have accepted the truce for humanitarian reason, and we also want South Sudan to be one of the mediators during this truce period, because South Sudan is closer to us, and that the country, among other friendly countries have our trust.”
